Music

Music is a joyful way of praising the Lord, and speaks to everyone.  Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise.  “The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through music.” -Martin Luther  Music is important in the lives of all people, cultures and religions.  It contributes to the opportunity for self expression and personal communication, and develops individual music potential.

At Kaufman Christian School it is our desire for children to find joy in singing, and to be knowledgeable about the basic fundamentals of music.  We work hard, yet have a lot of fun.

We learn to recognize, perceive and sing melody.

We learn to recognize:

Difference in speaking and singing voices

                 Pitches going up and down

Steps, skips, leaps, and pitches that stay the same

                 Dynamics (loud and soft)

                 Tempo (slow and fast)

                 Study expressive controls (color music)

Music Form (AB, ABA, AABB, ABAC, etc.)

Music Form by notation and by words

                 Harmony (rounds, partner songs, etc.)

We learn to read and perform rhythm.

We learn:

Types of notes, and their beat

                 Rhythm Patterns

                 Steady Beat

                 Time Signature

                 Play rhythm instruments

Musical phrases including phrases and sections with same, different,                  and repeated phrases

We learn music theory and symbols, and to read the treble and bass staffs.

Our 3rd and 4th graders learn to play the recorder.

Our 5th and 6th graders learn to play the chimettes.

Each year we have a Christmas musical as well as a spring musical, and sometimes, one in-between.  We have a concert at the end of the school year for our students playing the recorders and the chimettes.
